VRB RECOMMENDS CUSTOMERS TO BE CAREFUL FOR FORMS OF SCAM, IMPERSONATION OF BANK'S BRAND & STAFF
In order to help customers raise their vigilance when performing transactions with the bank, especially online transactions related to accounts, e-banking services, Vietnam - Russia Joint Venture Bank (VRB) updates the most common forms of scam methods in recent times at banks and credit institutions and recommend safe transaction measures.
Common forms of scam and impersonation of bank's brand and staff:
Method 1: Forging the bank's messages
The scam group sends fake messages with warning content of money deduction, notice of unusual transactions that users do not register attached with a domain name of the form [bank name].com.vn-***, require users to visit fake websites, enter e-banking account information in order to steal information and usurp money in their accounts.
Method 2: Forging a social network account with the name of the bank or bank's staff
The group of scammers set up social media accounts (facebook, zalo, instagram...) and use logos, brand images, transaction office information, fake authentication factors to impersonate the bank/ bank's staff. They use those accounts to contact, introduce, invite customer to use the loan service with attractive interest rates, simple procedures in two basic ways:
Trick 1: The scammer approaches and invites customers to provide personal information (ID card/ household book) to support loans. After that, provide forged confirmation documents signed by the Bank's leaders to prove that the customer has been disbursed/ meets the conditions to receive the incentive loans and requires the customer to pay some fee in advance. After receiving the money, the fraudster blocks all communication with customers in order to appropriate property.
Trick 2: The scammers approach, advise and ask customers to provide documents to support loans.
After receiving the application, the subject informed that the customer was ineligible for a loan due to bad debt, requested an advance payment to clear bad debt or transfer the application fee to complete the procedure. After receiving the money, the fraudster blocks all communication with customers in order to usurp property.
Trick 3: Impersonate relatives and friends with DEEPFAKE technology
The scam group takes over social network accounts (Facebook, Zalo, Instagram…) or creates accounts that are identical to customers' relatives and friends. Next, they collect images, voice and use DEEPFAKE technology to create fake videos to send messages to ask for money transfer. The subject simultaneously made impersonated video calls and played fake videos to verify information for fake accounts, increasing reliability to successfully perform fraudulent acts.
