FROM 01/01/2025, WITHOUT BIOMETRICS ONLINE TRANSACTIONS CANNOT BE MADE
From 01/01/2025, payment account holders/bank card holders will be suspended from making online transactions (money transfers, bill payments, deposits...) and money transfers/withdrawals if they have not updated their biometric information or have not updated new information to replace their expired identification documents (citizen identification card, passport, visa).
Specifically, Circular 17/2024/TT-NHNN stipulates that “Withdrawals and payment transactions by electronic means can only be made on payment accounts when the verification of identity documents and biometric information of the account holder or representative (for individual customers) or legal representative (for corporate customers) has been completed.”
Circular 18/2024/TT-NHNN clearly states that “cards can only be used to make transactions by electronic means when the verification of information has been completed to match the identity documents and biometric information of the cardholder.”
Accordingly, from 01/01/2025, if customers do not provide biometric data and have not been verified, all online transactions will be stopped. In case of need, customers need to go directly to the bank to make transactions. To avoid transaction interruptions, VRB recommends that customers:
1. Proactively check the correct GTTT and update biometric information in one of the two following ways:
(i) Update biometric information on VRB's iPlus e-banking application.
(ii) Update biometric information directly at VRB's branches/transaction offices nationwide (note, in case of using a passport, customers can only do it directly at the transaction point).
2. In case of identity documents that are about to expire/expired: VRB recommends that customers urgently register for a new identity document at least 30 days before the expiration date of the identity document that the customer is using. At the same time, update new identity document information on e-banking applications (in case the customer uses a chip-embedded CCCD card) or at the counter (in case the customer uses a passport).
